Lucas Van Helsdingen

Dutch classical clarinetist, saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist who plays on a wide range of woodwind/reeds, from oboe and traditional [i]shawm[/i] to microtonal instruments custom-built to perform music by [a=Harry Partch]. Lucas van Helsdingen co-founded [b][a=Calefax Reed Quintet][/b] with his schoolmates from [a=Barlaeus Gymnasium Amsterdam] in 1985 and played with the ensemble until '94. He also extensively collaborated with [b][url=https://discogs.com/artist/1166714]Scordatura Ensemble[/url][/b], constructing several Partch instruments for the "Rose Petal Jam" 2017-18 tour, including [i]Tin Oboe[/i] and [i]Mazda Marimba[/i] (built jointly by Lucas with [url=https://discogs.com/artist/6583725]Christian[/url] and [a=Elisabeth Smalt], [a=Chris Rainier], [a=Charles van Gelder], [a=Alfrun Schmid] and Harm Mouw.)
