Sid Phillips

English jazz clarinetist, baritone saxophone player and arranger. Born June 14, 1907 in London, England, died May 24, 1973 in Chertsey, England. First recorded along with his brothers Harry and Ralph for Vox in 1924 as a teenager as part of the Riverians Orchestra. From 1930 he wrote arrangements for Bert Ambrose's orchestra, joining as a musician 1933-1937. After World War II wrote several classical works for the BBC symphony orchestra as well as leading his own dixieland band. Father of [a77223].
