Vance Taylor

Vance Taylor is a native Atlantan who knew early in life that he wanted to pursue a career in music. The piano became his instrument of choice and as a youth, he took lessons from Dr. Salico, Professor of Music at Emory and Mercer Universities. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged his pursuit of music through the church. The church congregation became his audience. This exposure provided the spiritual foundation which allowed him to grow musically. At the age of thirteen, Vance received his first piano and began practicing and perfecting his skills intensively. His uncle exposed him to jazz musicians, such as [a=Oscar Peterson], [a=Art Tatum], and [a=Erroll Garner]. He soon found his niche as a result of the exposure to these jazz pianists. Vance’s first tour occurred when he accompanied [a=Peabo Bryson], and later he was the musical tour director for [a=Toni Braxton] and [a=Earth, Wind, & Fire]’s World Tour. He also performed with [a=Bob Hope], [a=Elton John], [a=George Howard], [a=Aretha Franklin], [a=Will Downing], [a=Stanley Clarke], [a=Roberta Flack], [a=Kenny Lattimore], [a=Chante Moore], [a=After 7], and [a=Cece Winans]. Currently, he performs in the group [a=Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly]. He has been with this group for the past five years. When he’s not touring, Vance plays for churches and other organizations in the Atlanta area. In addition to the piano, Vance plays the organ, keyboard, and synthesizers. He’s also a vocalist and has provided background vocals for George Howard, Peabo Bryson, and Will Downing. Recently he completed his first solo project entitled "Long Overdue." This independent-released CD includes ten arranged melodies that blend elements of soul, jazz, and funk.
