Henry McCullough

Northern Irish guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. Born July 21, 1943, Portstewart, Northern Ireland, UK - Died June 14, 2016, Ballywindelland, Ballymoney, Northern Ireland, UK. In the early 1960s, he became the lead guitarist of the showband [a=The Skyrockets (3)]. In 1964, he and three other Skyrockets members left and formed another showband, [a=Gene & The Gents]. In 1967, he moved to Belfast, Northern Ireland and formed the psychedelic band [a=The People (9)]. Later that year, the band moved to London, where the band's manager [a=Chas Chandler] changed the band's name to [a=Eire Apparent]. While the band was touring with [a=The Animals] in Canada, McCullough left the band returning to the UK, officially because of 'visa problems'. Back in Ireland, around May 1968, he joined the folk group [a=Sweeney's Men] for a few months. He returned to London around 1969 to work with [a=Joe Cocker] as a member of his backing band, [a=The Grease Band]. During his time with the band, he played with [a=Spooky Tooth] on their album [m=24447]. In December 1971, he was asked to join [a=Wings (2)]. He spent more than a year with the band, leaving on the eve of [m=48878] sessions in August 1973. In 1975, he joined [a=The Frankie Miller Band] spending two years with the band. In 1977, he temporarily joined [a=Dr. Feelgood]. He also did session work and played concerts with [a=Joe Cocker], [a=Roy Harper], [a=Frankie Miller], [a=Eric Burdon], [a=Marianne Faithfull], [a=Ronnie Lane], [a=Pink Floyd], [a=Leon Russell] and [a=Donovan] among many others. McCullough's spoken words "I don't know; I was really drunk at the time" can be heard on the Pink Floyd album "[m=10362]", at the end of the song "Money".
