Emil (Samuel) Grigorievich Gilels (October 6 (19), 1916, Odessa, Russian Empire - October 14, 1985, Moscow, USSR) - Soviet pianist, music teacher. Hero of Socialist Labor (1976). People's Artist of the USSR (1954). Laureate of the Lenin Prize (1962) and the Stalin Prize of the first degree (1946). Father of [a=Elena Gilels].
