Billy Hyde

Australian drummer who also played vibraphone, xylophone & tympany (b. Melbourne 12 Nov., 1918 - d. Melbourne 27 Dec., 1976) Self taught at drums. Played with many local bands during 1940s, and many radio broadcasts. With the ABC Melbourne Showband 1949-1962. He created the world’s first tube steel practice kit and designed and manufactured the Billy Hyde moulded practice pad, that is still played worldwide today, before going on to open the first Billy Hyde Music store in 1962.
