Justin Hinds

One of the pioneers of ska and rocksteady, [a386857] (with long time friends: Dennis Sinclair and Junior Dixon) were arguably the most successful group for producer Duke Reid in that period. The group, drawing heavily from the Bible and popular Jamaican proverbs, recorded some of the best known ska tunes including King Samuel, The Higher The Monkey Climbs, Jump Out A Frying Pan and Botheration. But it was the advent of the rock steady era which gave Hinds most success; he recorded his signature tune, Carry Go Bring Come in both ska and rock steady versions. Hinds was an active performer until his death, regularly touring North America and Europe, interest in his music reinvigorated through his appearance on many reggae compilations. Born 7 may 1942 in Steer Town, St Ann, Jamaica; died of lung cancer 16 March 2005.
