The Extempore String Ensemble

The Ensemble was formed, in 1975, in order to give expression to the improvisational method of playing that was familiar to musicians of the Renaissance era and encouraged by contemporary composers. Members of the Ensemble played modern copies of instruments commonly used in the latter part of the 16th Century and the beginning of the 17th.
