Mekongo Président

Cameroonian Bikutsi musician popular in the 1980s. (D. 2014-10-11) “Originally from Yaoundé, Cameroon, Jean Mekongo aka Mekongo President (the nickname President coming from his passion for the Tonnerre de Yaoundé football club) was a songwriter, arranger, conductor, producer, sound engineer, pianist , saxophonist, guitarist and singer. Mekongo contributed, like his elders Messi Martin and Anne-Marie Nzié, to the modernization of bikutsi by integrating musical genres such as pop or funk. The originality of this artist who also bathed in classical music is to have known how to mix between bikutsi and makossa. Mekongo President died on Saturday, October 11, 2014 in Esse, in Mefou-et-Afamba (Central Region in Cameroon), where he had retired for several years.
