Rita Lee

Rita Lee was a Brazilian rock singer, composer and writer, born in the Vila Mariana district of São Paulo Dec. 31, 1947. She died aged 75 in São Paulo May 8, 2023. She was a co-founder of Brazilian band [a15161], together with [a260883] and [a297267], in 1966. The band released five albums 1968 - 1972. In that time, Lee had also released her first two solo works, although these records were produced with fellow members of Os Mutantes. In 1972-73 she played briefly with [a315600] as [a3458639], and an LP with the duo was released for the first time in 2008. They also played on the [l=Phono 73] Festival. Between 1974 and 1978 she released four albums with the backing band [a683678]. From 1979 on she released a string of albums credited to herself or as the duo [a2112334] with her husband [a318936]. She retired from live shows and studio recordings after the release of the album [m=980739] in 2012.
