Birgitta Larsson

Swedish radio producer, former track and field athlete, guitarist, saxophonist, singer, percussionist and recording engineer, under the names Birgitta Tollan, Birgitta Larsson, later Larsson-Tollan, also Tollan Driesel, born 5 June 1950. She has worked as a radio producer and music and culture journalist at Sveriges Radio, Expressen, Göteborgs-Posten, Göteborgs-Tidningen and Musikens makt. She was also a member of the music groups Häxfeber, Collapse, Göteborgs Musikkollektiv and Mothers and Others. She regularly produces Musikmagasinet in P2 in Sveriges Radio. In 1997, Tollan produced two radio documentaries about hate crimes in P1 in Sveriges Radio and in 1998 she shared the honorary award Göteborgs Homosexuella Ros with the magazine Expo. In 2011, Tollan was awarded the Swedish Writers' Association radio prize and the Swedish Composers Association's Music Enabler prize. The justification was Birgitta Tollan makes persistent and loving radio surveys of music and life beyond the beaten track. In 2013 and 2014, Birgitta Tollan produced the program series How Sweet the Sound for ten full hours in P2 and P1 in Sveriges Radio. There, around 30 African-American musicians talk about racism and discrimination in American art music.
