Matt Vehl

Australian musician, keyboardist, songwriter and producer, based in Melbourne / Naarm. Born and trained in Naarm (Melbourne), Matty Vehl's work with various ensembles has introduced him to notable stages both at home and internationally (Salzburg, Bonn, Berlin, Luzern). Graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts (2003), his work as a pianist has earned him long-term residencies at establishments such as the Melbourne RACV Club and Crown Casino Melbourne. Matty has worked with notable Australian artists such as Clare Bowditch, Charles Jenkins and Davey Lane. As keyboardist with Bombay Royale, Matty has toured Europe, US, Africa and Asia. Matty has appeared at Australian festivals such as the Wangaratta Jazz and Blues, Apollo Bay Music, Byron Bay Blues and Roots, and the Big Day Out. Festival highlights include Glastonbury Festival, Womad UK, Sziget, Splendour in the Grass & Meredith Music Festival. Matty’s creative projects have included the electronic pop outfit Cool Explosions, and he produced the band’s debut 12” album, released independently in March 2019. VEHL is Matty's soulful art-rock project, with a debut solo album released in August 2023.
