The Rentals

The Rentals is the new wave-influenced project of singer/songwriter [a=Matt Sharp], former bassist for '90s power pop favorites [a=Weezer]. During the spring of 1994, Sharp mounted the first Rentals studio session, assembling a roster including Weezer drummer [a=Pat Wilson], [a=that dog.] violinist [a=Petra Haden], vocalist/keyboardist [a=Cherielynn Westrich] and guitarist [a=Rod Cervera]. Subsequent recording dates in the studio yielded the group's 1995 debut album "Return Of The Rentals", achieving a minor alternative hit with the infectious lead single, "Friends of P.". Sharp returned to Weezer to record the band's acclaimed 1996 follow up, "Pinkerton", but announced his exit from that group's lineup in February, 1998. The second Rentals album, "Seven More Minutes", followed a year later. After an extended hiatus, The Rentals returned with "The Last Little Life EP" in 2007. Their third studio album, "Lost In Alphaville", appeared in 2014, featuring an entirely new group lineup. In November 2019 Sharp announced Q36 a project that would release a new Rentals single every two weeks for 6 months, culminating in a new LP in June 2020
