Doy Ott

American Gospel baritone singer, songwriter, arranger & musician. Born April 28, 1919 in Haywood, Oklahoma, USA. Died November 6, 1986 (aged 67) in Marietta, Georgia, USA. Ott was accompanist for the Stamps-Baxter Melody Boys, the Hartford Quartet, the Rangers, and the Homeland Harmony. In 1951 he began as a pianist for the Statesmen Quartet when Hovie Lister had to serve in the military. He became the group’s baritone singer upon the departure of Bervin Kendrick and remained with the Statesman for the next 25 years. Besides singing, he was responsible for many of the Statesmen's musical arrangements. His best known song was probably "Wait For Me", written after the death of his first wife. Ott was elected to the Gospel Music Association in 1998 (as a member of the Statemen) and to the Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2000.
