Dave Beer

Occupation – Purveyor Of Good Times’ David Michael Beer, born in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, UK DJ, producer and promoter. Together with [a409406], and Ralph Lawson co-founded Back To Basics (or just 'Basics' as it was known to regulars) at The Music Factory, Leeds in 1991- 94 (formerly Chocolate Factory, a gay club). Later moved to the Old Rickys / Gallery Club which was voted Second Best Club by Pete Tong and Mixmag readers in 1992, coming second to The Haçienda. The venue, renamed The Pleasure Rooms', was home to Basics from 94-97. Basics continued at 'Rehab' 97- 98, then moved to the newly kitted out The Mint Club 98 - 02, then on to Stinky's (Peephouse) 2006 - 2011, then moved to the newly-refurbished The Warehouse 2011 - 2016. Basics continued at Church 2016 - 2019, and one-offs such as The Garage in 2013 and in Leeds Millennium Square in 2017 (in the rain) and 2018. Back to Basics won Best Small Club at the Muzik Magazine Awards in 1998 and 2002 while at The Mint Club. Earlier in his career he was a keen photographer in the post-punk scene in the early 1980s, and also worked as a roadie / tour manager for a variety of alternative groups.
