Terry Baucom

From Monroe, North Carolina. (October 6, 1952 – December 7, 2023). Started playing banjo at age ten with his father's group The Rocky River Boys. Took up the fiddle at age 14. First pro job: playing fiddle with Charlie Moore (1970-1973.) 1976, joined Ricky Skaggs, Jerry Douglas and Wes Golding to form "Boone Creek." 1979, was a founding member of Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver. Lawson calls him "Mr. Drive." 1985, formed The New Quicksilver with Randy Graham, Alan Bibey and Jimmy Haley. 1991, was a founding member of IIIrd Tyme Out. 1992, with Lou Reid formed "Lou Reid, Terry Baucom and Carolina." 1996, left the road to freelance and teach music in the Charlotte, NC area. 1998, formed BlueRidge (a re-united New Quicksilver). 2001, formed Baucom, Bibey and BlueRidge. 2003, re-joined Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver. 2007, left Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver to pursue "banjo-focused opportunities," including producing instructional DVD's. Worked part-time with the Mark Newton Band and the Kenny & Amanda Smith Band. 2009, joined Dale Ann Bradley's band for several months; then joined the Mashville Brigade. Also performs occasionally with "Mountain Heart with Tony Rice."
