Inga Juuso

Norwegian-Sami journalist, joik singer and actress, born 5 October 1945 in Jokkmokk in Sweden, died 23 August 2014. She grew up in Alta municipality in Norway, where her father was a cab owner. She came from the Kautokeino municipality on her mother's side, where she stayed during the summer in an environment with a lot of joiking. She has worked for Musikk i Troms in Harstad (Kultur Troms in Troms county) as a joik singer since 1999, with permanent employment since 2003. Inga Juuso formed together with the percussionist Harald Skullerud the duo Juusk, and with the double bassist Steinar Raknes the duo Skáidi, which combines jazz with joik. She was an actor in the film Kautokeinoupproret in 2008. Inga Juuso appeared in the TV series Sápmi Sessions in SVT 2011 (part 1 of 6) together with Markus Krunegård.
