Bakery

Progressive hard rock band founded 1970 by New Zealanders Hank Davis (drums) and Eddie McDonald (bass). They had previously been together in Avengers. Keyboardist Mal Logan (ex-Rebels, New Zealand), guitarist Peter Walker (ex-Jelly Roll Bakers) and flautist John Worrall completed the original lineup. Logan left by October of that year with the Bitter Lemons' Rex Bullen taking over. Vocalist Tom Donaldson also joined around that time as Worrall had exited for Ssarb. Their debut was recorded live at a mass at St. George's Cathedral and not really representative of their Black Sabbath/Deep Purple/Led Zeppelin influences. Their single "No Dying in the Dark" cracked the top ten in the local Perth market. Not long after that success, vocalist Davidson left with former [a=Barrelhouse (2)] member Mark Veschuer slotting in. Kiwi Barry Leef became frontman in February 1973 not longer after the band's appearance at the Sunbury Pop Festival (documented on [m548520]). Phil Lawson was the group's bassist for that fest replacing departed Steve Hogg. Lawson himself was replaced in August 1973 by ex-Syrius member Jackie Orszaczky (Syrius). In February 1975, Bakery split up.
