Tristan Murail

Tristan Murail (born March 11, 1947 in Le Havre) is a French composer, associated with the "spectral" technique. After receiving degrees in Arabic language studies and in economics he studied composition at the Paris Conservatory under [a=Oliver Messiaen] (Premier Prix in composition). He taught computer music at the Paris Conservatoire and composition at IRCAM in Paris, in 1973 he was a founding member of the [a869054]. Since 1997 he has been a professor of composition at Columbia University in New York City.
