George Turnlund

Canadian classical viola & violin player. Born October 29, 1931, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada - Died September 10, 2010, Minster-in-Thanet, Kent, England, UK. During his musical studies in Winnipeg, he became a member of [a=The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra]. In 1955, he decided to continue his studies at the [a=Royal Academy of Music] in London, first on the violin and later the viola. Upon completion of his studies, he joined the [a212726] serving as Principal Viola (1957-1970). He also was a permanent member of the [a4178810], and a popular session musician. After his retirement, he played for many years with [b]Thanet Light Orchestra[/b], the [b]Impromptu[/b] ensemble, and many other local groups in Thanet. Father of [a=Martin Turnlund] and [a=Rutledge Turnlund].
