Murray Wall

Australian jazz bassist, born 28 September 1945, Melbourne, Australia. Died 18 July 2022, New York City, New York. Mostly self-taught by playing along with recordings. Began public performance with brother Richard in 1962 in Melbourne jazz venues. In 1969, Wall moved to Sydney to be part of the first Australian production of [i]Hair[/i]. Moved to New York in 1979 to study improv with pianist Lennie Tristano. In the early 1980s, he joined up with Benny Goodman with whom he would play until Goodman’s death in 1986.
