The Chameleon Project (2)

Chameleon Project is a livetronica quartet formed in Toronto, ON (2003) by guitarist and songwriter Josh Laing. The band’s sound is largely instrumental (although vocal samples do occur at times), and blurs the line between electronic and organic sounds. Fusing elements of jazz, electronica, funk, disco, dub, and experimental rock, the band’s sound is eclectic and flowing often delving into psychedelic textures which are typically supported by propulsive dance or reggae rhythms. Chameleon Project live shows are typically expansions on their tightly arranged studio tracks, mixed with cover songs that are often heavily reworked to fit the band’s hybrid style. Improvisation also plays a prominent role at live shows and as such set lists and songs can vary in character show to show. Often compared to such disparate bands as Bonobo, Medeski Martin and Wood, STS9, John Scofield, Thievery Corporation, Soulive, and the Disco Biscuits.
