Maurizio Argenziano

Born in Naples in 1977, Maurizio Argenziano started playing electric guitar in 1995 at the age of 18. Initially influenced by noise and punk bands, Maurizio’s musical trajectory continued to span experimental and contemporary music genres making him deeply active in the southern Italian underground music scene centered in his hometown of Naples. In 1998 he founded experimental-postpunk band Missselfdestrrruction, with Massimo Spezzaferro (drums) and Rosalia Peluso (bass and voice); their only album ("Asimmetrica", Snowdonia, 2001) alternates a few song-oriented tracks with some completely improvised short pieces. In 1998 he also became member of Silken Barb ("Silken Barb", Freeland, 1998). After a few concerts around Italy, both bands disbanded. In 2003 he founded A Spirale with Massimo Spezzaferro (drums) and Mario Gabola (sax). The band mixed post-punk attitude, extended techniques, noise, and free improvisation. Their discography includes several albums as a trio ("Gariga", Setola Di Maiale, 2008; "Agaspastik", Fratto9 Under The Sky, 2009; "Viande", Die Schachtel, 2010) and a few together with other musicians, like the two with russian duo ASTMA ("Case Matte", Viande, 2012; "The Cost Of Service", Zeromoon, 2013) and the one with american percussionist Chris Cogburn ("Autocannibalism", INSUB, 2019). In 2004 he started to collaborate with Tonino Taiuti (guitar, voice, acting), performing live with him and recording several albums (self-released on CD-R) of primitivist free music, sometimes using acoustic guitars. In mid 00's he alsobegan to play with several bands and musicians involved in improvised, experimental and noise music (Sec_, Asp/Sec_, Aspec(t), Strongly Imploded, Sebastien Lemporte, Dario Fariello, Zero Centigrade...). In 2006 he started playing with Francesco Gregoretti (One Starving Day drummer) as Oddly Imploded, a free noise duo ("Choke all your habits...", Tape Drift, 2011; "They just sit about", Shhpuma, 2019). When guitarist Sergio Albano joins them, they become Grizzly Imploded ("Anabasi", Sincope, 2013; "Steel from your brow", Metzger Therapie, 2016), becoming still more oppressive and decontrolled. Maurizio has toured Italy extensively, Europe, Russia and U.S.A.. He has played live with: Chris Cogburn, Pascal Battus, Seijiro Murayama, Miguel Angel Garcia, Tetuzi Akiyama, Eugene Chadbourne, Jack Wright, Valerio Tricoli, Olivier Di Placido, Cris X, Andy Guhl, Mat Pogo, Rhys Chatham, Mike Cooper, Katsura Yamauchi, Ignaz Schick, Fabrizio Spera, Roberto Fega, Roberto Bellatalla, Alexei Borisov, Olga Nosova among others.
