Timpuri Noi

Alternative rock band from Romania, Timpuri noi came together in 1983 in Bucharest around core members [a1788094], [a3130081] and [a1892796]. They were influenced by acts like [a6520] or [a3909] and used subversive lyrics directed against the communist regime. Remaining an underground act throughout the 80s, the band's style was still isolated in the Romanian rock music landscape until the late 90s. They grew to mainstream success after 1992, using a combination of funk metal and alternative with heavily satiric lyrics that dealt with the social realities of the transitioning working class. In 1997 bass player [a1788097] quit the band and moved to [a1892288]. After signing a highly lucrative promotional contract with [l50625] in 1997, Timpuri Noi disbanded in 2001: [a1817523] went on to form [a1897861] and [a1788094] started Zidd. They re-formed in 2005 for a Best Of album. [a1817523] left the band again in late 2009, citing creative differences. [a1788094] continues with the band in various line-ups.
