Tony Bennett

American singer of traditional pop standards, big band, show tunes, and jazz (born August 3, 1926 in Astoria, Queens, New York, USA – died July 21, 2023 in New York, New York, USA). Bennett recorded his first two songs, "Vieni Qui" and "Fascinatin’ Rhythm,” in 1949 under the pseudonym [a=Joe Bari] for [l=Leslie Records, Inc.] In 1950, Bennett began his long-time association with the [l=Columbia] label, using the name Tony Bennett. With "Because of You" (Columbia 39362), he scored his first number 1 hit in 1951. Starting in 1963, he won a total of 20 Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000. Bennett was also a painter. Many of his works, which he signed as Anthony Benedetto, are on permanent public display in several institutions. Father of [a2036736], [a218787] and [a2381030].
