Ed Smalle

American vocalist (tenor and baritone) and pianist active in the 1920s. Born November 2, 1887 Died November 23, 1968. Ed Smalle (pronounced "smalley") was a much-recorded vocalist and pianist who started making records during the latter days of acoustical recording, and continued to be very active throughout the 1920s. He began his career in music as a song demonstrator in Boston before moving to New York to work for Harry Von Tilzer's publishing company. He began his recording career at the suggestion of [a490385], who appreciated Smalle's ability to sing vocal harmony. Smalle's expertise in creating eccentric vocal sounds won him great favor as a recording artist. He was also a member of the popular vocal group [a2102525], as both vocalist and pianist.
