Ρίτα Αμπατζή

Rita Abatzi was one of the most popular Greek recording artists in the mid to late 1930s. Born in 1914 in Smyrna, in the Aidin Vilayet of the Ottoman Empire (some sources have given her year of birth as 1903 and her place of birth as Halka Bounari, Smyrna) - Died 11 June 1969 in Egaleo, Athens, Greece. She started recording in 1931. Since then, she recorded over 400 Smyrna, rebetiko and traditional folk (dimotikó) songs. After the war, she never sang on records again.
