Mortal (2)

Founded in 1988 [a161962] was a Christian industrial/dance band fronted by [a136750] and [a153109]. Both members went on to found the alternative rock group [a137197], and for a time were members of both bands simultaneously. The band is known for its lyrical intelligence, incorporating advanced theology with what has been billed as "Industrial Praise and Worship". Originally known as [a13306162], the duo added [a173241] and [a1073458], signed with [l342692], and released their debut album Lusis in 1992. The album was produced by [a234638] and [a173259] of [a325497]. A second guitar-heavy full-length called Fathom was released in 1993, followed by a grunge album named Wake (1994) and an ambient new age dance album, Pura (1995), all on the Intense label. By this time, Fontamillas and Xhan were being backed by drummer [a421536] ([a11359403]) and guitarist [a253752]. Legal issues with the Mortal band name prompted Jerome Fontamillas and Jyro Xhan to form an alt-rock band, Fold Zandura, which released one album and three EPs. The Mortal name was revived in order to release a self-titled album on [l21206] in 1996, featuring three Fold Zandura songs. A 1998 best-of album, Godspeed, featured two non-album tracks. Mortal was extant from 1988 to 1996, with a reunion album released by [l12328] in 2002, Nu-En-Jin, featuring Fontamillas and Xhan performing an electronic space-rock concept suite. Fontamillas joined [a257407] in 2000, originally as a session musician and then a full-time member. In 2022, Jyro and Jerome joined together again as [a12086455].
