Freddie Guerra

American Saxophonist and bandleader of the swing era. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 13, 1923 Died 2003 (age of 79). At an early age, he discovered his love for the saxophone and the path for a life in music was set. He was chosen to audition for Major Glenn Miller at Yale University and became the youngest member of one of the most famous bands of all time. During the war, he traveled through Europe and played with the Army Air Force band until Major Miller was lost over the English Channel. After the war, he stayed with the Army Air Force band and traveled thorough out the United States under the direction of Tex Benecke. In 1946 he started his own orchestra at the Totem Pole Ballroom at Norembega Park in Newton, Massachusetts. He also taught music at the New England Conservatory and the Berklee College of Music.
