Staffan Broms

Swedish jazz singer and guitarist. Born January 24, 1917 in Stockholm, Sweden — died October 30, 1995 in Djursholm, Stockholm, Sweden. He played in orchestras led by Emil Iwring, Hasse Kahn, Miff Görling and more. He was also active as a ship broker, and during World War II he also worked at the Swedish embassy in London and was the hallman for the BBC's broadcasts in Swedish. During the 1950s he became popular as a hit singer with the record company Metronome. In 1956 he was engaged as a guitarist in Anders Burman's orchestra, and after that he played jazz and dance music in various orchestras. Broms participated in the Melodifestivalen 1959 with the contribution "Dags igen att vara kära". He did not record it himself on record, but Brita Borg and Tosse Bark did. When swing music became popular again in the 1970s (with, for example, "Happy jazz" at the jazz club Stampen), he played with various orchestras, including Ove Lind. He also acted as a substitute for Sten Carlberg as the guitarist "Öset Luhring" in Helmer Bryd's Eminent Five Quartet.
