Bisybackson

Originally from Sacramento, Ca or 'Sacto' Bisybackson was founded in 1994 by Dan DeVriend, Curtis Frietag, and Jason Racine (Razen) while partially living in infamous punk show house "the P st house" that also housed many other sac punk bands such as the Secretions, Squirrel, and members of Amber Inn among many others. The golden Age of 90's Sacto Punk was born right in this neighborhood with legendary DIY Non-Profit Show space 'The Loft' a block away and Time tested books around the corner as well. Many local hardcore labels such as Sunny Sindicut (Amber Inn / Yah Mos) and Moo-La-la (Los Huevos, Yah-mos, Karate Party) were spawned during this period and played a key role in the growth spurt of killer DIY sac punk during this period. Bisybackson was tried and true DIY fully supporting the scene and putting in long non-profit co-op hours at the Loft selling books and records during the Day and playing and hosting shows at the Loft and local basements by night. Playing often with and supporting scene brothers the Yah-Mos, and Amber Inn among others. This was the Hey Day during which bands like The Yah-mos, Amber Inn, The Lizards, Nar, Los Huevos, The Secretions, Tiger Trap, Pivot, Outhud and string of equally amazing bands were born and thrived. Bisybackson was one of the first to hit the road and stay on the road making tour a lifestyle and pretty much going with wind like true DIY vagabonds. Touring with bands like Fifteen, Harriot The Spy and playing shows nationally with pretty much every other underground hardcore band of the period Bisybackson were the Minutemen/Husker Du of the period mixing straight ahead sonic hardcore punk mingled with dance and Dub influened numbers. Bisybackson were known for instigating a dance party and having a good ass time. Finding a love for Portland, Oregon the band relocated in 1997/98 leaving Jason behind in Sac to play drums for !!! and replacing him with drummer Todd Harms and adding friend Dan Herman on second Guitar. The touring continued and so did the recordings. Bisybackson found a fond kindred friendship with Ohio band Harriet the Spy and label 'Donut Friends' issuing a Split With Harriet The Spy and also releasing a CD/ Lp as well on the Donut friends Label. They also toured with friend and label mate from Jealous Butcher records Kind of Like Spitting. Dan Herman left the band after a few tours and was replaced by longtime Nor Cal friend Jeff Gardner from Ex Sunny Sindicut band Land Of the Wee Beasties. The Band recorded two full length final recording sessions which tracks from the two sessions were split into their final album "Notes From The Sinking." Although the Band did not tour again it played a barrage of legendary Portland Shows with buddies kind of like spitting, Urban Legends, hosting Ex Sacto buddies !!!, Outhud, and the Portland debut of friends Jets to Brazil on their first Portland visit. Bisybackson had planned a Summer tour in 1999 but was canceled due to the sudden death of beloved bassist Curtis Frietag. Curtis's loss was felt nation wide and a huge blow and wake up call to the scene and really sort of defined the end of an era in DIY punk rock as most involved knew it. Lead Singer Dan Devriend continued playing and founding Made For Tv Movie, Giant Baby, and Bad Territories putting out a slew of Jealous Butcher releases. Todd Harms Played with Six Foot Sloth, Jeff Gardner Went on to found The Swords Project and Razen (Jason) relocated to NYC with !!! and Outhud.
