Puerto Rican trumpet player (b. 5 August 1935, Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico; d. 4 November 1999, Puerto Rico) One of Puerto Rico's most eminent bandleaders and arrangers working with such combos and musicians as [a=Puerto Rican All-Stars], [a=El Gran Combo], [a=Willie Rosario], [a=Roberto Roena] and [a=Gilberto Santa Rosa] along with his own bands. Father of [a=Mario Ortiz, Jr.], who is also a trumpet player.
