Enikő Szilágyi

Enikõ Szilágyi is a Romanian singer of Hungarian nationality. She was born in Cluj-Romania on 19 December 1952. Her father was a tenor at the Opera in Cluj. She is a singer(mezzo-soprano) and a theater and film actress. She is a graduate of the University of Theater and Cinema in Bucharest. From 1980 she worked at the theater in Târgu Mureş and from 1987 at the Hungarian State Theater in Cluj-Napoca. She has appeared in numerous romanian movie productions. In 1982, Enikõ Szilágyi was actress of the year in Romania. In 1989 she left Romania with her husband. They went first to Denmark and then to the Netherlands and Belgium, where she worked as a waitress and a cleaning lady. During this time she perfected her French and learned Dutch, and in two years she became an official forensic translator. She lives in Belgium for four years, acquires Belgian citizenship and then settles in Budapest Hungary. She performed at the Budapesti Kamar Kulthaz. From 1995 she performed at the Katona József Theater in Kecskemét and from 1997, György Lengyel hired her at the Csokonai Theater in Debrecen. In the meantime, she studied French chansons. In addition to songs by Jacques Brel, Georges Brassens and Léo Ferré, Mrs. Szilágyi composed her own chansons based on the poems by Pablo Neruda, García Lorca, Charles Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine and Arthur Rimbaud. She was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary. Mrs. Szilágyi lives in Paris since 2005. She plerformes at the Théâtre des Nouveautés in Paris. Her repertoire includes Florelle, Lys Gauty, Caura Vaucaire, Juliette Gréco, Barbara, Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, Boris Vian, Kurt Weill and her own chansons. In 2004 she was named "Ambassador of the French song". She also sings in New York, Brussels, London and Berlin.
