Νικόλας Άσιμος

Nikolas Assimos was a Greek songwriter, singer, guitarist, performance artist, writer, and political activist. Bon 20 August 1949, Thessaloniki, Greece - Died 17 March 1988, Athens, Greece by suicide (he hung himself). He was a very special case of a counter-culture artist, mostly because of his lifestyle. His behavior and songs were often received as provocative by the general public. He was a person with strong political opinions. Ideologically, he could be categorized as an anarchist but he never accepted being put in a specific political ideology. In 1975, his first appearance in the discography was marked with a 7" single, released by [l=Zodiac (5)]. From September 1978 to March 1987, he released eight bootleg cassettes of more or less rough recordings of his songs. He mainly trafficked them himself. In November 1982, the only LP he released during his lifetime, was released by [l=Minos (2)]. He set up impromptu street performances (happenings) in the center of Athens, for which he coined the terms "Krok" (in the 1970s) and "Volta" (in the 1980s, on Strefi Hill). He formed two short-lived musical groups, the Exarchia Square Band, with [a=Χρήστος Ζυγομαλάς], and [a=Νικόλας Άσιμος Και Οι Εναπομείναντες] (Nikolas Asimos and the Remainers), with [a=Τόλης Βουλτζάτης] and [a=Λίτσα Περράκη], with whom he did not record. In 1976, he had a daughter from his extramarital relationship with the anarcho-feminist Λίλιαν Χαριτάκη, [a7486819]. See also [l1336781].
