David Baker (10)

David began writing lyrics in the early 90's and spent a few years writing songs and fronting several different Indie and Metal bands including Sheffield band [a4319542] after he was approached by a guitarist in the band. After several years of fronting bands David decided to focus on the writing side rather than the performance side of the Industry. In 1994 he was approached by Martin Leverton who had gone to school with him. Martin was looking at putting together a writing and production team which would feature different vocalists. Martin asked if David would write some vocals and together with [a=Robert Gordon] of legendary [l=Warp Records] fame the group [a43858] was created. Upfront released several records in the mid to late 90s which featured several different vocalists including [a=Julie Stewart] (Ex vocalist in [a32391])and Rosie Brown (From Rafiki Jazz). One of their tracks was remixed and released as the second release on the Sheffield label [l=Lady Cop]. The early to late 2000's saw David enter the world of Artist and label management as he managed a number of successful Sheffield based House and Garage record labels which culminated in one of the labels artists releases reaching 29 in the UK charts. During this time he was involved in a couple of remix releases and a collaboration with [a=DJ Veteran] on a re-working of "Sure" one of the tracks previously released by Upfront. This release was one of the few fully original tracks released on the Sheffield label [l=Reflective Records]. In 2007 David opened up a record store confident that vinyl records would again become popular despite the music Industry appearing to be heading towards a more digital based future at that point. As of 2015 this store continues to grow and trade in a climate of rising record sales. In 2014 the vocal from Sure was reworked by [a1360758] owner of Sheffield based [l=Urban Sprawl] . Through out the 2000s despite being heavily focused on the above projects David continued writing new material and as of 2015 he is in the early stages of collaborating on several new writing projects with the wealth of material he has written over the last 20 years.
