Bronius Kutavičius

Lithuanian composer and teacher. Born 13 September 1932 in Molainiai, Panevėžys County, Lithuania. Died 29 September 2021 in Vilnius, Lithuania. In 1964 he graduated from the Lithuanian Conservatoire (composition class of A. Račiūnas). From 1965-69 he taught at the Vilnius School of Culture, between 1969-74 at the Vilnius Pedagogical Institute, between 1975-2000 at the Čiurlionis Arts Gymnasium, and 1984-2000 at the Lithuanian Academy of Music (until 1992 named the Lithuanian Conservatoire), he became professor in 1985. Kutavičius is best known as the harbinger of minimalism in Lithuanian music. His Pantheistic Oratorio (1970) and especially oratorio Last Pagan Rites (1978) are valued as one of the most important and influential Lithuanian contemporary music works.
