Nina Van Pallandt

Danish born singer and actress. Born Nina Magdelene Møller-Hasselbalch in 1932 in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she is best known for her part in [a=Nina & Frederik], a calypso-inspired folk duo with her husband [url=https://www.discogs.com/artist/3536395-Frederik-van-Pallandt]Frederik, Baron van Pallandt[/url], whose name she took. The duo achieved international succes, also appearing in the movie The Melody Of Love with Louis Armstrong. They married in in 1960 and had 3 children but divorced in 1975. Before, she had been married to Danish-English singer/actor [a=Hugo Wessel]. In 1969 she contributed the song Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown? to the James Bond-movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service. (Rumours has it she also "played a part" in another 1969 song, Peter Sarstedts UK #1 hit Where Do You Go Where Do You Go To (My Lovely). One theory is that Nina van Pallandt was the mysterious Marie-Claire in the song about a young jet-setter who moved in high circles but was from a lowly origin. As an actress, Van Pallandt appeared in several Robert Altman films during the 1970s, including The Long Goodbye, A Wedding, and Quintet. In the early 1980s she appeared in American Gigolo and Cutter's Way.
