Funguson
The band started up in 1994 as Fungus and released the debut EP "Tied Without a Leash" in 1996, and the maxi-single "Friend of Mine" in 1997. Fungus won "The So What! Award" in 1997 (Best new Norwegian band), played a lot of shows and became a solid live act. Through the years the band has opened up for acts like Mogwai, Sebadoh, Stereolab, Karate, Steve Westfield, The Soundtrack of Our Lives etc.. In 1998-99 they decided to add two letters to the end of the original band name - and funguson was born. Their highly acclaimed debut album "Penguin Lovegame" was released in 2001. The second album "Indie Ocean" came out early in 2007. The band is inspired by music from four decades. In a way you can say that the typical funguson sound would be to mix 60s 12-string Rickenbacker guitars with floating modulation effects from the 70s space/prog rock, 80s synthesizers and walls of fuzz from the 90s US east coast indie rock scene. The instruments used on their albums are authentic from the music periods listed above, played through vintage valve amplifiers and processed through obscure analogue signal sources. Unfortunately the drummer, Tom Bye, had to leave the band in 2008, and after that both Espen Helvig and Pål Ingholm have been busy with other projects. 12 years have gone since their last album. Will they ever release any new material..?
