John Gary

American singer, recording artist, songwriter, and TV host. Born November 29, 1932 in Watertown, New York, USA. Died January 4, 1998 in Dallas, Texas, USA. Gary started as vocalist with Don McNeill's Breakfast Club for two years. He was later a New Orleans radio singer on WDSU-TV, and featured in night clubs. He was one of RCA Victor's top popular artists during the 1960s. Gary was considered by many to be one of the most talented of popular singers due to his extraordinary breath control and tonal quality of his voice. He had an exceptionally wide range of 3+1/2 octaves. His singing ranged from robust baritone to a high sweet tenor often in the same song. He was the host of The John Gary Show, a summer variety show during the summer of 1966 that was filling in for The Danny Kaye Show. It was a balanced mix of music and comedy. Two years later it returned with fresh episodes for syndication. Gary was also a performer on the musical stage.
