Leslie Adey

Leslie Adey (born 1949 - deceased 2017) was a UK lighting designer and lyricist. He first made a name for himself as a member of the psych-rock collective [a=Principal Edwards Magic Theatre] in the late sixties. In the seventies, he became lighting designer for [a=Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come], and on [a=Genesis] tours for their albums 'Selling England By the Pound' and 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway'. Also that decade, he went on to work with prog rock-band [a=Camel]. In tandem with his lighting design, Adey was an accomplished lyricist. He co-wrote Principle Edward’s Magic Theatre’s debut single, 'Ballad', and also penned 'Dance' for Arthur Brown. He's best known for penning 'Walk in My Sleep' and 'This is Japan', which were covered by The Who’s [a=Roger Daltrey] and [a=Long John Baldry] respectively. Adey then worked with [a=Jack Green] and [a=T. Rex], earning a gold disc for Green’s first solo album, 'Humanesque', released in 1980. Having retired from lighting design, after stints at Sadler’s Wells Theatre and the London Palladium, Adey continued to write lyrics and poems throughout his life.
