Biplan

Formed in 1995 in Vilnius, Biplan is one the most popular Lithuanian pop-rock/indie-folk band. With more than 20 radio hits on their account Biplan is among the Top 5 most successful bands in Lithuania. After debut album Banzai (1997) shortly followed their critically acclaimed second release Braškės (1998), which featured such hits as “Labas rytas” and “Ketvirtadienis”. Biplan catapulted to stardom as Braškės won them multiple awards, including the album of the year, the best band, and the best rock band of the year awards. After their biggest hit to date “Labas rytas” was released, Biplan became a household name. The band also recorded a Russian version of this song called “S Dobrym Utrom”. It quickly gathered fans across Russia as the song gained acclaim from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok. Throughout the years, Biplan released popular albums Jazz’e tik merginos (2000), Chuligans (2005), and Nuodai P.S. Lyg paskutinį kartą (2009), as well as Russian market oriented records Blondinkam (1999), V jazz’e tolko devuški (2001), and Plius/Minus (2012). The band’s success was followed by numerous awards while Biplan solidified their reputation as multiple-hits band and toured extensively in Lithuania, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Ukraine, Russia, and Albania. In 2014 Biplan released one of their most popular albums Visi keliai veda prie jūros, which included major hits “O mes prie jūros”, “Kapitonai”, and “Amore”. The latter ballad became a well-known romantic anthem followed by millions of streams. Biplan also recorded Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian versions of this song. The Ukrainian composition gained sympathy with the members of popular Ukrainian uprising as the band performed it live during the 2014 protests in Maidan, Kiev. For civic leadership Biplan vocalist Maksim Melman was awarded the Medal of Merit award by Lithuanian president Dalia Grybauskaitė. In 2019 Biplan released their latest album Nuo nulio iki mėnulio and went on promotion tour in Lithuania. During the quarantine of 2020 Biplan performed live in one of the first drive-in shows and released the first drive-in live single in the world “Kapitonai 2020”. As the band celebrates their 25 th anniversary, Biplan remains true to experimentation and search of new sounds. In autumn 2020, the band collaborated with well-known Lithuanian singer Karina Krysko and went on a jazz inspired tour Džiaze tik merginos.
