Yuli Turovsky

Yuli Turovsky (July 7, 1939 – January 15, 2013) was a Soviet and Canadian cellist, conductor and music teacher. He began to play cello at the age of seven and studied at the [l285011]. In 1969 he won the USSR Cello Competition and later became principal cello of the [a931349]. He left the Soviet Union in 1976 and settled in Montreal, forming the [a1169886] with [a1169890] on violin and [a1169889] on piano. As a soloist, he played with the [url=http://www.discogs.com/artist/L%27Orchestre+Symphonique+De+Montreal]Montreal Symphony Orchestra[/url], the Orchestre Métropolitain and the [a345340]. He founded [a2839318] in 1983, his wife [a1683687] being concertmaster and their daughter [a2096378] also playing violin in it. He served as its conductor until May 2011.
