Rod McGrath

British classical cellist. Aged 15, he joined the [a=National Youth Orchestra Of Great Britain] becoming Principal Cello of the orchestra in his final year. He then studied at the [l527847] and was made Principal Cello of the [a=Royal Academy Of Music Symphony Orchestra] in his first term, the first time this had happened in the Academy's history. He joined the [a=London Philharmonic Orchestra] as number two cello at the age of 21. Four years later, he joined the [a=London Symphony Orchestra] as Co-Principal Cello (1978-1998). he was a founding member of [a=The Rossetti Ensemble]. He joined the [a=West Australian Symphony Orchestra] in 1997 and also joined the [b]Australian Piano Quartet[/b] at the same time. He and his family became Australian Citizens in 2000.
