Marta Kubišová

Czech vocalist, actress, TV presenter. Born November 1, 1942, in České Budějovice (former Czechoslovakia). In the late 1960s the most popular female pop singer in Czechoslovakia, she won the Zlatý slavík (Golden Nightingale) reader award in 1966, 1968 and 1969, and she was about to launch a recording career in West Germany and in France. Banned by the communist regime for political reasons in 1970 and prohibited from performing in public until November 1989. In the late 1970s and the 1980s signatory and spokeswoman of the dissident civic movement Charter 77. Returned to singing in 1990 and sang until 2017.
