Pepe Ébano

Peruvian Percussionist Born December 12, 1935 in Lima (Peru) - died July 8, 2022 in Madrid, Spain. José Luis Ganoza Barrionuevo is nick named as "Ebano" because of his dark ebony skin tone. Active since 1949, he went to Spain with Alberto Cortez in 1956. Introduced Peruvian "cajón" in flamenco music, through Camarón and Paco De Lucía (bongos uncredited on [r=1914667]). As a session man he has played for Alfonso Santisteban, Maria Dolores Pradera, Tito Duarte, Manzanita, Vainica Doble, Mecano, Juan Camacho, Rosendo Mercado, Placido Domingo, Paloma San Basilio, on folk music (Nuestro Pequeño Mundo, Caco Senante), flamenco (Camarón, Paco de Lucía) or rock albums (Glutamato Ye-Ye) as well as with the Vlady Bas Quartet (jazz).
