Βαγγέλης Κονιτόπουλος

Vangelis Konitopoulos, Greek folk lute/bouzouki/baglama player, singer, arranger, and songwriter of the Cycladic & New Folk (Neodimotiko) styles. Born in 1953 in Kinidaros, Naxos island, Greece. At the age of thirteen, alongside his high school studies, he taught himself the lute. At fifteen, he learned to play a second instrument, the bouzouki. He made his first arrangement in 1973. From 1985, he started writing his own songs. Son of [a=Μιχάλης Κονιτόπουλος] and brother of [a=Ειρήνη Κονιτοπούλου-Λεγάκη], [a=Γιώργος Κονιτόπουλος], [a=Κώστας Κονιτόπουλος] & [a=Αγγελική Κονιτοπούλου]. Nephew of [a=Δημήτρης Φυρογένης]. Cousin of [a=Κούλα Κονιτοπούλου]. Brother-in-law of [a=Αικ. Κονιτοπούλου] (Yorgos' spouse). Father of [a=Μιχάλης Κονιτόπουλος (2)] (from his second marriage). Uncle of [a=Ελένη Λεγάκη] (Irene's daughter), [a=Νάσια Κονιτοπούλου] (Yorgos' daughter), [a=Στέλλα Κονιτοπούλου] (Angeliki's daughter), [a=Βασίλης Κλουβάτος] (Angeliki's son) & [a=Μαρία Κονιτοπούλου] (Angeliki's daughter). In 1979, the five siblings opened the legendary 'Muragio' club together, which closed in the late 1980s. From 2009 to 2010, Vangelis & his second wife ran a multi-room club in Athens, 'Galazio', a name he later gave to his own studio.
