Krypton (9)

Early pioneers of Romanian hard rock/heavy metal, Krypton are much more known for their later pop-rock style. The band was formed in Bucharest, in the year 1983, the original line-up being Eugen Mihăescu (guitar, vocals), Gabi Golescu (guitar, vocals), Mihai Rotaru (drums), George Lupu (bass). Initially opting for an 80's melodic hard rock sound, they quickly switched to a heavier style as soon as the communist rule ended. Their 1991 LP "Lanțurile'' is notable for being one of the few heavy metal double-albums to be released in the former Eastern Bloc. The ambitious project is an entire rock-opera about the fall of communism in Romania. After Eugen Mihăescu left the band to pursue a solo career, Krypton only had sporadic activity. In 2000 he decided to revive the project with a new group of musicians, choosing Răzvan Fodor as the vocalist. With their 2001 album, "Comercial'', they started releasing melodic pop/rock, having a couple of notable hits in Romania. After releasing a couple of successful albums, the group fell into obscurity once more in the late 2000's. Krypton was revived in 2012 with musicians from the classic 80's line-up, and started playing their old heavy metal/hard rock songs live again.
